Houston: Owls Take Lead in the Sixth

By Jeremy Mills - June 12, 2006

Through five innings, the Owls left eight runners on base. In the bottom of the sixth, the #2 national seed finally took advantage of their opportunities.

Rice forced John Brownell from the game in the bottom of the sixth with a Danny Lehmann leadoff single and a walk to Tyler Henley. Greg Buchanan greeted Sooner closer Will Savage to the game by grounding a 3-2 pitch through the right side of the infield to load the bases. Brian Friday popped up for the first out of the inning, but Josh Rodriguez picked up his third hit of the game on a two-run grounder through the left side of the infield. Rice emotional leader Joe Savery followed with a mammoth shot to the right of the batters' eye to bring in three more runs and provide the Owls with a four-run lead.

Rice still batting in the bottom of the sixth, now leading 8-4.
