After the Sooners put two runs up in the top of the inning, Rice answered with two of their own in the bottom of the frame to re-extend the lead to two runs. Danny Lehmann doubled down the line in left with one out, moved to third on a bunt single by Tyler Henley and scored when Greg Buchanan singled to center. The Owls scored an additional run after two Steven Guerra wild pitches, before John Brownell came on to record the final out of the inning.

Through 2 innings, Rice leads 6-2.
