Houston: Sooners Break the Shutout
By Jeremy Mills - June 10, 2006
For the first time in nine innings against Eddie Degerman, Oklahoma has touched home plate against the Owls. After Degerman struck out the first two batters in the second, Aaron Reza walked ad Jackson Williams was hit by a pitch. Joseph Hughes singled to right, and Reza slid into home just in front of the throw from Jordan Dodson. Chuckie Caufield hit the next pitch right to Brian Friday at short, but the ball bounced into leftfield and Williams scored the second run of the inning. The inning just ended on a grounder back to the mound, but Oklahoma cut the lead in half and the Owls now lead 4-2 heading into the bottom of the second.
A great crowd tonight at Reckling Park. I got on the Owl fans for not showing up during the C-USA Tournament, but they've been out in force and vocal the last two weekends. There are over a thousand crimson-clad Sooner fans as well, and they got a chance to chant "O-U" as the Sooners rallied in the second. There are even about a hundred fans out on Bikini Hill (over the leftfield wall), so it will be interesting to see where the attendance number comes in (I'm guessing within a stone's throw of 5,000).
