Houston: Sun Devils= Human Rain Delay
By Jeremy Mills - June 03, 2006
I can't put my finger on the exact cause, but it seems like every Arizona State game I've followed has dragged on for 3 1/2 or more hours. We've played 1:20 since resuming play today, and only 18 outs have been recorded -- Baylor leads Arizona State 3-1 through 4 1/2 innings.
For those who aren't following the game on CSTV, each team has added one run since last I wrote. The Bears took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Beamer Weems and Matt Sodolok. That was the end of the game for Sun Devil reliever Josh Satow, and Daryl Arreola is their third pitcher of the game. Arizona State tallied their first run in the bottom of the frame on a Brett Wallace homer to right field.
Ryan LaMotta has been in control for most of the game for the Bears. Over three innings, he's allowed three hits and one run since taking over for Cory VanAllen.
The Bear fans have enjoyed the contest to this point, as they've had more threats so far and have been quite willing to heckle the slow play of the Sun Devils. It seems like Arizona State coach Pat Murphy calls almost every play from the dugout, so it'll be interesting to see how long a game with Prairie View would take if they get runners on base against ASU. If the offense doesn't pick up, we'll get to find out later this evening!
