Houston: Underway in the Championship Game

By Jeremy Mills - June 05, 2006

Joe Savery struggled with his control against the first two Baylor batters, but emerged unscathed from the top of the first inning. Rice comes to bat for the first time with no score on the board.

Savery threw more balls than strikes in the first inning, walking Kevin Russo on five pitches before falling behind Seth Fortenberry. After Fortenberry failed in a sacrifice attempt, a Beamer Weems strikeout and Zach Dillon strikeout got the Owls out of the top of the first.

As expected for a 4:00 start on a Monday, the crowd is late arriving. Probably around 1,500 fans in their seats so far, but I expect we'll be close to full by the time we hit the seventh inning stretch. These two typically play in front of 4,000 fans or so when they square off, so that's my estimate for where we end up tonight.

The winner of this regional will battle the winner of the Norman regional, which will be decided later toinight. Oklahoma staved off elimination yesterday evening, and will face Wichita State in a second championship game at 7:00 Central.
