Lexington: Cats Hold On
By Chris Glasser - June 04, 2006
By the skin of their yellow country teeth, the Wildcats held on to beat Ball State 12-9.
Matt Robinson got the win after coming on early in relief. Andrew Albers got the save, his seventh. But it wasn't easy. Albers entered in the eighth with the bases loaded and two runs already in. He gave up a single, a walk, and two runs, but he got out of the inning on a pop up and with the Cats clinging to an 11-9 lead.
Provided an insurance run in the top of the inning, Albers made quick work of the Cardinals in ninth.
Now UK has roughly 75 minutes to prepare for Charleston. It will be a contrast in styles. Charleston was third in the NCAA this year in team ERA and hasn't allowed a run in 22 innings. The Cats' offense, as it was all season, is suddenly potent again. They just scored ten runs for the second straight game, and for the nineteenth time this season.
The obvious advantange goes to Charleston, as they are well-rested, and Kentucky, after this three hour, forty-five minute marathon is, well, not -- especially in the bullpen.
Final stats on the game.
Kentucky: 12 runs, 19 hits, 2 errors.
Ball State: 9 runs, 16 hits, 0 errors.
