Lexington: Charleston-Ball State Begins

By Chris Glasser - June 03, 2006

Three quick thoughts before the first pitch of Saturday's Game 2 between Charleston and Ball State....

As much as I liked the clean, all white (white helmets even) look of Charleston's home unis, these gold top, white bottom road jerseys that they're sporting tonight are attrocious.

Of all the pregame rituals, my favorite is fielding practice. I think I could be happy with my life if one day I became the assistant coach in charge of hitting infield practice.

Last night when Ball State played Kentucky, the stands were packed with Kentucky fans except for this pocket of red over in the corner. That pocket of red is here again tonight -- only tonight the stands are about two-thirds empty. Yet here are 200 Cardinal fans sitting on top of each other over in the corner of the stands. I guess you have to admire the family atmosphere of the program.

Let's play ball...
