Lexington: Irish early
By Chris Glasser - June 02, 2006
After giving up two runs in the first and a homerun to Alex Nettey to lead off the second, Charleston starter Graham Godfrey was in trouble of getting his Cougars run out of the stadium. To make matters worse for Godfrey, the Irish followed Nettey's homer with a double and a walk, putting runners on first and second with no outs.
Charleston coach John Pawlowski began Jeff Beliveau working in the bullpen and visited his starter at the mound. Godfrey responded by getting Craig Cooper to ground into a double play and then Brett Lilley ended the inning with a gound out of his own.
Charleston got back in the game with one run in its half of the inning. The run came with two outs on a questionable balk call against Samardzija.
At the moment, it's 3-1 Irish in the top of the third. And any momentum Charleston gained with its run in the second has been lost: the Irish have the bases loaded with no outs.
