Lincoln: Arrived in Lincoln

By Doug Kroll - June 01, 2006

After five hours of flying and a three hour layover in Chicago, I have finally made it to Lincoln, Nebraska. It's my first time here and I just wanted to let everyone in on how great this little city (or big town?) is. I'll keep this first entry short and sweet, and save my words for when the games begin tomorrow afternoon, but this town is 'Husker crazed.

The car rental agent saw my Miami shirt and immediately began talking about "the tournament." The hotel here has three glass elevators, and on the first it reads,"GO," on the second it reads "BIG," and on the last it reads,"RED!" I've now been to a fair share of college baseball sites, and I have never felt like a whole city knew the team was playing, but here in Lincoln, it's obvious and amazing. College baseball is alive and well here in the heartland and I can't wait for the first pitch tomorrow between Nebraska and Manhattan. Talk then.

It's not just like that in Lincoln, it's like that in the whole state.

Welcome to Nebraska. You are going to be in for a real treat this weekend. There is no place like NEBRASKA.

It's not just a football state, is it? It's like that all the time, every month of the year. Go Big Red and hope to see you around the stadium this weekend!

Just want to wish my Miami guys the best of luck for this weekend!!! Play your best Andrew, Eddy, Yonder, Jemile, Roger, Danny, Chris, Jon, Jason, Danny, Marcelo, Ricky, Carlos, Scott, Tommy and all the team and coaches.
I would also like to wish Lucas deLong, Scottie Cousin, Coach Moore and the rest of the Dons good luck in the Nebraska Regional.
Wish I could be there to cheer you all on!!

Lincoln is a great place, even for a Sooner who lived there for four years! Make sure you check out Woodys and the N-Zone. Great atmosphere!

I just recently spent a couple of weeks in Nebraska. I knew about the passion for the football team, of course, but I was interested in how it extended to NU baseball.

I thought Lincoln was a pretty nice college-town-plus.
