Oxford: Skip Bertman rule

By Chris Kieffer - June 04, 2006

Former LSU coach Skip Bertman used to say that any time a player was hit by pitch to lead off an inning, he always came around to score. Such was the case for South Alabama in the bottom of the first. Jaguar center fielder Tyler Jones was hit with an 0-2 pitcher by TU starter Brandon Gomes to lead off the game and came around via a balk and an error.
Jaguars score twice more in the inning before a failed steal attempt ended the frame.
After one, USA leads Tulane 3-2. It's going to take a lot of runs to win this one.
