Pac-10: Beavers grab early edge

By Lindsay Schnell - June 10, 2006

Oregon State gets on the scoreboard first, but not in a way anyone expected.

In the bottom of the first inning, second baseman Chris Kunda got a single with one out, and then advanced to third when outfielder Cole Gillespie bounced one past the Cardinal third baseman. With Kunda on third and Gillespie on first, Stanford pitcher Greg Reynolds was called for a balk, which scored Kunda and moved Gillespie to second.

First baseman Bill Rowe popped up to centerfield for the second out and designated hitter John Wallace hit one that looked like it would drop, but was snagged by Cardinal second baseman Chris Lewis.

Through one and a half innings, it's Oregon State 1, Stanford 0.
