Thoughts for The Coming Day at Clemson

By Craig Jackson - June 03, 2006

In less than 3 hours, tournament play resumes with Clesmon taking on UNC Ashville is what will be a long hot day in South Carolina. And after looking around at some of the scores from yesterday, you have to wonder if Clemson is paying attention.

Let's just take a look at a few of the opening day "upsets" if you will.
1. Princeton over Arkansas (at Fayetteville no less)
2. Ball State over Kentucky (in Lexington)
3. Manhattan (without the Muppets) beat Nebraska AT Llincoln (beginning to get the drift here?)

In the Norman regional, both the 1 AND 2 seed lost, setting up a loser go home game today at 1 PM Central.

Other top teams like Rice and Ole Miss struggled to get 1 run wins at home. And to boot, the Clemson, Atlanta, Houston, Athens, and Charlottseville regionals still have Day 1 action to complete.

So what does all this mean? Nothing to the casual observer. But to the college baseball fan, it means a day of scoreboard watching, and non partisan rooting for the conference of your choice.

It also means that if Clemson comes out any way other than focused, they could be playing the early doubleheader today. Just ask Arkansas, and Kentucly, and Nebraska, and Oklahoma.
