17-7 in the top of the 9th and still batting.
Two run triple by Ryan Seawall (4th hit of the game), double by John Hester, double by Chris Minaker (5-for-5, 6 runs), triple by Jason Castro, double by Brendan Domaracki… On the bright side for NC State, they did finally get Michael Taylor out.
Stanford answered NC State's 2-run inning with a 3-spot in their next at-bat. Minaker, Taylor, and Lewis were in the middle of it again. The Cardinal now lead 8-5 after six innings.
Stanford has 14 hits in 6 innings, but has stranded 7 runners.
I’ve seen 98 degrees on the stadium scoreboard, but NC State is still showing some fight in its second game of the afternoon. The Wolfpack just rallied and tied it 5-5 after five innings.
Here at hot and humid Disch-Falk Field, North Carolina State and Texas are preparing for a noontime elimination game. The winner of this game will take a short break then play Stanford at 4 pm. Win that, and you get a winner-take-all game against the Cardinal tomorrow at 6 pm.
Stanford is now the only undefeated team in the Austin Regional after their 12-8 win over Texas. The Cardinal dug out of an early 3-0 deficit with 16 hits, and sent most of the sellout crowd home unhappy.
In front of a loud sellout crowd, Stanford and Texas have traded big punches early in the game, with Stanford leading 4-3 in the middle of the third inning.
You know how announcers always say that it’s the little things that win games? Well, that’s not entirely true, because big things win games more often than little things. But NC State just beat UTA 6-5, thanks to a little thing.
In a development that today’s Stanford-Texas loser will later look upon fondly, UT-Arlington and North Carolina State are headed to extra innings tied at five.
We’re tied at 5-5 after eight innings, and I’m completely over missing out on breakfast tacos. Actually, I’m pretty hungry, but I’m in a much better mood because we've had several innings of great drama on the field.
The thousand or so Longhorn fans already here have found a couple of things to root for. #9-hitter Collin Garner just lashed a bases-loaded double to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 UT-Arlington lead. Daniel Rieder followed with a single and now it’s 5-3 after five innings. UT fans are now firmly backing the branch campus.
Maybe the disappointment of missing the free breakfast tacos is too great to overcome, but after four innings NC State leads UTA 3-1 in a game that’s ugly and sloppy, and is not entertaining me.
Stanford dominated today’s first game, beating NC State 7-2. Stanford will play again at 3 pm tomorrow, while the Wolfpack will play an 11 am elimination game.
After seven innings, Stanford leads NC State 6-1. It makes a guy feel good when he focuses his pre-game writeup on one player, and that player comes out and dominates the game. Thanks, Greg Reynolds.
In hot, humid, and sunny Austin, Stanford is hitting ringing line drives and leads NC State 4-0 in the top of the 2nd. The Cardinal got a run in the first almost immediately and has added three more in the second, two on Jim Rapaport's double. NC State has just gone to the bullpen.
