Fayetteville: 2 wings and a prayer: Oral Roberts wins Fayetteville Regional

It's been since 1978 for Oral Roberts, but a regional championship is finally theirs. ORU totally dominated the Cowboys, beating them for the fourth straight time this season, and advancing to the NCAA Super Regionals with a 9-2 win over the Cowboys. The ORU fans are partying and dancing inthe stands, as their team dogpiles at the pitcher's mound.

Fayetteville: Duffy adds to the ORU rout

Just because it's the 9th inning doesn't mean ORU is ready to stop scoring. Brendan Duffy sends a RBI double to left, hitting the SEC logo and giving ORU a 9-2 lead over the Cowboys, whose team...and fans, look totally dejected.

Fayetteville: ORU 3 outs from Super Regionals

A note to the folks in Tulsa: get ready to party. Tomorrow, you'll need to start looking at flights, probably to Clemson. The Golden Eagles are a mere 3 outs away from winningO the Fayetteville Regional.

Fayetteville: ORU feeling good, up 4-2 after 6

Pitching has returned to Fayetteville, which spells good news for the Golden Eagles, who lead 4-2 after 6 innings. Oral Roberts is 9 outs away from their first regional title since 1978, when they went to Omaha.

Fayetteville: Anderson out to argue a 3rd time

Frank Anderson is not a happy man.

As Tyler Mach hit a grounder to short, Torres threw to Kahaulelio, who bobbled and tripped before firing it to Rothford at first. Mach beat the throw to first, but Wright, called out at second, argued to the ump that Kahaulelio never touched the bag at second (from this angle, he did, but who knows?). Anderson tore out of the dugout for more umpire chewing, and the frustrated Cowboys continue to trail 4-2.

Fayetteville: Controversy reigns supreme

A very controversial "batter interference call" resulted in the umps giving ORU a double play, costing the Cowboys a run and sending Frank Anderson into hysterics.

Fayetteville: Mercer singles, 4-2 ballgame

The Cowboys are finally showing signs of life, and Rob Walton is concerned as he walks to the mound to talk to his pitcher, Chance Chapman. Jordy Mercer's line drive single to left brings home yet another OSU run, cutting the lead to 4-2, and keeping the bases loaded with nobody out.

Continue reading "Fayetteville: Mercer singles, 4-2 ballgame" »

Fayetteville: Minissale drops routine fly, Pokes in business

It was a simple, routine fly ball hit off the bat of Adam Carr. Kelly Minissale jogged to it, put his glove on it...and then dropped it. The error proved crucial as Shelby Ford singled to left center, putting OSU on the scoreboard. ORU leads 4-1, but OSU has the bases loaded with nobody out.

Fayetteville: Kahaulelio makes it 4-0 Eagles

The Eagles are on cruise control, and the fans from Tulsa are starting to feel victory is at hand, thanks in part to Jake Kahaulelio. His double over Ty Wright's head brought home Brendan Duffy and turned this game into a 4-0 ORU lead.

Fayetteville: Lineups Up, and it's time to Play Ball!

We are moments away from the start of OSU vs. ORU. Josh Fritsche (2-1) will take the mound for the Cowboys. Fritsche pitched to one batter in the earlier game vs. Arkansas, but he'll have his work cut out for him facing the red hot Golden Eagles. It's time to get things started in Fayetteville as the Cowboys take the field.

Fayetteville: ORU vs OSU.. Is This the Grand Finale?

After a roller coaster of a game this afternoon, Oklahoma State and Oral Roberts are warming up for the first game of the Fayetteville Regional's championship round. Is tonight the night for ORU to celebrate? Or will the Cowboys avenge their loss and send us to a Monday showdown.

Fayetteville: Diving Catch at the wall ends Hogs season

Oh, the drama tonight. This one tops them all.

Arkansas ends their season when Brian Walker hit a deep shot to left that looked like it was headed out. But Ty Wright's leaping grab against the wall sends agony to the Hog faithful, while jubilation rang out in the small band of Cowboy fans.

Now the Hogs REALLY wish they could've gotten more out of that 7th inning.

Matt Clarkson singled just over the glove of SS Matt Willard, making it a 6-4 game in favor of the Cowboys, and sending the crowd of 6,369 at Baum into a state of utter silence.

Continue reading "Fayetteville: Clarkson adds insurance for Cowboys" »

Fayetteville: Hogs leave 'em on the corners

The Hogs had the tying run on 3rd with one out, but Jake Dugger popped out to short, and James Ewing popped out to left field, and Oklahoma State holds a slim 5-4 lead as we head to the 8th. Once again, Arkansas is down to their last six outs. Will they rise to the challenge again? We'll find out.

Fayetteville: Gentry singles to cut lead to 5-4

Craig Gentry knocks a single up the middle and just past the diving Shelby Ford to score Arnold from third and make it a 5-4 game. The Hog calls are roaring right now as Frank Anderson makes another pitching change. Josh Fritsche, a junior LHP, will come on for the Cowboys, while Jake Dugger gets set to bat for Arkansas. Runners at the corners, 1 out, and a one run game at Baum.

Fayetteville: Suspense growing in the 7th

As the chant of Arkansas! Razorbacks! fills the afternoon air in Fayetteville, OSU has decided to change pitchers, as Clint Arnold stands on 3rd, and Logan Forsythe on 2nd for Arkansas with only one out. Jeff Breedlove, a freshman RHP, comes into the game for the Cowboys as Craig Gentry will attempt to possibly tie the game for the Razorbacks.

Fayetteville: Hogs threaten, but get nothing.

It's still 5-3 in favor of Oklahoma State, as the Hogs put 2 men on, but Chris Hollensworth grounded into a 6-4-3 double play to end the sixth.

Continue reading "Fayetteville: Hogs threaten, but get nothing." »

Fayetteville: OSU's huge inning continues

Matt Clarkson singled up the middle to give OSU a 5-3 lead on Arkansas. All 5 Cowboy runs have come in the top of the 6th, and it looks like Arkansas might make their second pitching change of the inning. Chris Rhoads came in to replace Maday, but has yet to record an out in 3 ABs. The new Razorback pitcher is Devin Collis, as the Hog crowd sits anxiously, praying that this half of an inning can come to a quick end.

Fayetteville: Brown, Carr answer with HRs, OSU 4-3

Corey Brown has played well all weekend for Oklahoma State, and with the Pokes trailing in the 6th, he crushed a Daryl Maday pitch over the right center power alley to put OSU on the scoreboard, 3-1.

Fayetteville: Hogs take lead 1-0

Craig Gentry's double down the left field line scored Logan Forsythe, and the Razorbacks draw first blood in this game to the delight of the huge pro-Hog crowd in Fayetteville. How big is the 1-0 lead? Well, Arkansas is 23-5 when scoring first, and just 16-15 this season when they don't.

Fayetteville: Pokes threaten, but still tied at 0

The Cowboys got 2 men on thanks to an error by Razorback SS Matt Willard, and a walk by Daryl Maday. However, the Hogs got out of the jam and we're scoreless. A HUGE cheer just echoed from both UA and OSU fans on the news that Texas is out of the tournament...proof that old hate dies hard.

Fayetteville: Great diving catch by Dugger

Jake Dugger made a terrific diving catch on a looper in shallow left field for the third out, keeping the score at 0-0. Maday's allowed 1 hit and struck out 2 Cowboys so far in 2 innings of work.

Fayetteville: OSU gets a hit, but nothing else

Arkansas no-hit OSU earlier this season, and Ty Wright made sure history didn't repeat itself. His single, just over the reach of 2B James Ewing's glove, ended 9.1 innings of no-hit baseball for OSU against Arkansas. However, the Pokes did nothing with it, and we're scoreless in the 1st.

Fayetteville: Record Crowd? It'll be close

The record for a crowd at Baum Stadium is 10,029 fans, set when Arkansas defeated Florida State 4-2 to advance to Omaha in 2004. Left field is packed, and center field is starting to have fans trickle in as overflow. If I had to guess now, it'd be at least 9,000...and more are filling in.
