Bullfighters and Bovines: Nowhere But Dell Diamond

By Glenn Tanner - February 03, 2007

We’re back at Dell Diamond for game two of the San Diego-Texas series. San Diego’s 6-5 win last night was their fourth consecutive over the Longhorns.

Sophomore pitcher Kyle Walker will try to break that streak for Texas. The lefty started the Horns’ second game last year at USD and was roughed up in 3.1 innings of work. Walker spent the rest of the season in the bullpen, but was spectacular, allowing only 16 hits in 36 more innings. Lefty Josh Romanski will get the start for the Toreros. Romanski, who starts in the outfield when he doesn’t pitch, was West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year last season.

It’s a little warmer today – 47 now, with an expected high of 55.

A few other interesting scores from last night that I haven’t seen mentioned on the blog…

Mercer scored two runs in the ninth to beat fifth-ranked Miami 6-5.

Oklahoma lost to Texas State 8-3. Texas State pitcher David Wood was pulled after five innings even though he had yet to allow a hit.

Arizona’s Preston Guilmet lost a no-hitter in the ninth inning, and the Wildcats settled for a 14-0 win over Gonzaga.
