Down to their last out, North Carolina transfer Matt Spencer doubled down the right field line for the Sun Devils, then Petey Paramore, with the count full, walked to put the winning run on first base.

Pinch hitter Tim Smith then came on and hit a hard shot off pitcher Greg Folgia, keeping the ball in the infield, but still allowing a base hit.

LSU transfer Jarred Bogany came up with the bases juiced and struck out on four pitches.
