Longhorns Get First Win

By Glenn Tanner - February 03, 2007

Texas broke its four-game losing streak to the University of San Diego in a 13-8 slugfest today at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

The Texas offense rolled through the Torero pitching staff today, sending eight batters to the plate in the second inning, nine in the fourth, and eight in the seventh. Every Texas starter had a hit in the game. Preston Clark (three hits) and leadoff hitter Nick Peoples (five RBI) led the way.

USD brought their bats, too – Shane Buschini, Jordan Abruzzo, and Sean Nicol all homered and Mike Metzger had three hits. Every Torero starter reached base at least once.

In fact, both teams had thirteen hits in the game, but San Diego didn’t string theirs together as well, stranding eleven runners.

The rubber game of this series will be tomorrow at 1pm. San Diego will probably start Matt Couch, who retired the final two batters of Friday night’s game. Texas’ James Russell will make his Longhorn debut.

It’s supposed to be warmer, too – predicted high of 65! WOO-HOO!!!
