Rice: starting lineups

By Amber Obermeyer - February 23, 2007

Storey is indeed pitching for Florida Atlantic; after pitching on Friday in the first two series of the year, he moved to Saturday last weekend to face Oklahoma State in the marquee tournament match-up and has moved back to Friday to face Rice.

RIce is facing just its fifth right-handed starter in 11 games, so switch-hitters Jess Buenger and Diego Seastrunk are making their fourth starts of the season (all against righties for both players). Left-handed hitting Jared Gayhart is hitting in the third spot for the second straight game, so Rice has five left-handed hitters (the others are lineup regulars Tyler Henley and Joe Savery). Frankly, I think the lefty-righty (and vice versa) match-ups are overrated, but that's another story for another day, I suppose.

With all RIce hitters struggling to varying degrees, Wayne Graham has experimented with many different lineup combinations, never using the same one twice. Florida Atlantic, by contrast, has had the same first through fourth hitters in the lineup in eight of its nine games.
