Rice: Tarp roulette
By Jonathan Yardley - February 24, 2007
We're playing tarp roulette at the moment at Reckling Park. Rice had assembled in front of its dugout, ready to take the field, and the rain decided that was an appropriate time to intensify. The rain has gone back and forth between nothing, a light mist, and a pelting downpour. The mound and home plate areas are currently tarped, even though there is no rain to speak of.
And as soon as I wrote that ...
... players and grounds-crew members came out to remove the tarps, and the Owls assembled in front of their dugout once again. Maybe we'll get this thing started after all. If it doesn't start pouring again during the national anthem.
