Stanford: Let's play two...maybe
By Alex Gyr - February 10, 2007
After last night's rainout of the season opener against Fresno State, the Bullldogs and Cardinal were slated to play a double-header starting at noon PT. It looks like Mother Nature has different plans.
So, it looks like they are going to still try to play a pair this afternoon, but game one isn't going to start until 2:00 PT. The rain in the Bay Area has died down a bit, but the forecasts for both this afternoon and tomorrow are not looking good. Neither team is taking batting practice on the field and with just over an hour to go until scheduled first pitch, the tarp is still sitting in the outfield.
The fans are starting to trickle in, but I would be surprised if there was any real turnout, even though it is the season opener. The start time of the game has been changed twice already and it looks like more wet weather is on the way. It's hard to imagine the casual fan showing up for this one.
Meanwhile, both Stanford and Fresno State are desperate to get on the field with a chance to pick up a win. The Card desperately need some momentum heading into its series against Texas next week, especially after last week's brutal three-game sweep at Cal State Fullerton. Fresno State just lost a home series to San Francisco, and needed a 5-4 win last Sunday to avoid the sweep. It should be interesting to see how the mix of bad weather and early-season desperation play out...weather permitting, of course.
