Early controversy stirs a scoreless first

By William Bretherton - March 03, 2007

The leadoff hitter of the inning for Auburn, center fielder Bruce Edwards, hit a bunt single down the first base line that the Arizona State pitcher Brian Flores fielded and looked as if he had tagged the runner Edwards. However, the umpire ruled him safe. Then Arizona State manager, Pat Murphy, came out to argue the call and it was reversed. The decision essentially changed the momentum of the inning for the Tigers lineup as they went down in order. Scoreless here in Auburn through one.
