Huskers feeling better

By Mark Etheridge - March 10, 2007

After being shutout on Friday, Nebraska head coach Mike Anderson was very disappointed in his team’s approach. He called them timid, tentative, and questioned their competitiveness. After a thrilling 4-3 victory over Alabama Saturday to even the series, Anderson was pleased with how his team responded to the challenge.

Jeff Tezak had five hits including a home run and the game-winning hit in the ninth inning. Starter Charlie Shirek kept Alabama’s offense at bay and reliever Zach Herr put up zeroes in his three inning stint.

“It was a great game all the way around,” Nebraska head coach Mike Anderson said. “We competed better. We jumped out early and that really helped. I’m really proud of Charlie and Zach Herr. They kept us in the game offensively. We did just enough offensively to get something done.”

“We are giving everything we got,” Tezak said. “We’ve been talking a lot about fighting. We want to be a dirtball and out-compete the other team. I think we did that today. We have to keep that up.”

“It was a really good game,” said Alabama head coach Jim Wells. “A lot of things happened in the game but in the end, they make you execute bunt defense. They make you execute a two-strike pitch. That’s baseball. Would the outcome have been different if that happens? Who knows? But it wouldn’t have ended there.”

“They hit the ball,” Hunter said. “They came out ready to swing the bat. The first pitch of the game their guy takes one off my foot. We hung in there. We had a little get-together before the three-run inning. The game turned around right there.”
