KSU-UT: It's Finally Over

By Glenn Tanner - March 24, 2007

Mercifully, it's finally over. Just like last night, Kansas State avoided the shutout with three runs in the ninth. Just like last night, though, the score ended lopsided, this time 14-3.

14 runs, 17 hits, 1 error for the Longhorns
3 runs, 6 hits, 0 errors for the Wildcats

Texas emptied its bench late in the game, and everyone seemed to join the party -- seldom-used Jeff Boes had a two-run triple and freshman Clint Stubbs (Drew's brother) lashed a run-scoring double for his first career hit.

Star of the Game? How can you pick one? I'm going to cheat and do it like football...

Defensive Player of the Game: Adrian Alaniz threw seven shutout innings, allowed only three hits and one walk, and fanned six.

Offensive Player of the Game: In five plate appearances, Travis Tucker had a walk, two singles, a double, a triple, three runs scored and two RBI.

Texas will go for the sweep tomorrow. Ben Hornbeck (2-0, 5.74 ERA in 26.2 innings) will go for Wildcats. Joe Krebs (4-0, 2.48 ERA in 26.1 innings) will get his second start of the season for Texas.
