Nashville: Pitching ruling the day early after two

By Chris Lee - March 10, 2007

David Price fanned 16 last night in Vandy's 2-1 win, and UIC's Zach Peterson also pitched seven strong innings, giving up just two runs and fanning seven. So far today, it looks like a repeat performance of pitching excellence in Nashville.

After two innings, it's scoreless in Nashville. Vandy's Nick Christiani gave up a leadoff double in the second to No. 4 hitter Brett Schaeffer, but struck out Tyler Moore and Mike Kaffel (who homered off Price last night) in succession, then after a walk to Mickey Pingree, got David Cales to fly out to center.

Meanwhile, UIC's Steve Crnkovich enjoyed a short second inning, getting No. 4 and 5 hitters Ryan Flaherty and Shea Robin on one-pitch outs, then striking out DH Andrew Giobbi, who's been a hot hitter of late. That was Crnkovich's third K of the day.

Clouds are moving in to Nashville now, but it's still an unbeatable weather day.
