Oxford: Bruins break the ice
By Chris Kieffer - March 10, 2007
UCLA finally broke through for its first runs of the series.
UCLA has strung together four consecutive hits to take a 3-1 lead.
Sitting on Lynn's fastballs, Mickey Weisser, Casey Hearther, Will Peniall and Ryan Babineau each got hits.
Weisser began the string with a little flick that just fell in shallow right field. From small streams come great rivers...
With runners on first and second, Peniall hit a chopper into left field and the Bruins decided to test the arm of Ole Miss left fielder Justin Henry, usually their second baseman. It worked as Henry just threw the ball back into the infield and Weisser scored.
Babineau then smashed a double to left that caused the blue-clad UCLA contingent along the first base line to get loud.
OM coach Mike Bianco then visited with Lynn to try to settle the sophomore. He induced Corey Asher into a fielder's choice to stop the streak before walking Alden Carrithers to put runners on the corners with two outs.
Lynn fell behind 2-0 to Justin Uribe and then got two strikes to bring the Oxford-University Stadium crowd into its rhythmic clapping.
He then fanned Uribe with a 3-2 fastball high and away to end the inning.
3-1 UCLA going into the bottom of the second.
