Postgame goodies from Auburn

“We want to beat you in more than one way if we can,” said Arizona State head coach Pat Murphy. “We don’t want to rely on swinging big. In playoff-type baseball, swinging big is not going to do it. We are capable of (playing power baseball), but can also beat you in other ways.”
“It is a very good Arizona State club,” Auburn coach Tom Slater said. “They take tremendous two-strike approaches. Bryan did good job get to two strikes but just couldn’t put them away. They are very well-disciplined. I didn’t see a big cut all day. They‘ve got Ike Davis, one of the best players in the country, and have him sacrifice bunting.”
“Satow was outstanding,” Slater said. “We tried to take the plate away. Give him credit for sticking with his game plan.”
Arizona State held Auburn’s dynamic duo of Josh Donaldson and Mike Bianucci hitless in seven at bats.
“That was a focus,” Murphy said. “We saw them both last year. They both struggled last year against us. We didn’t give them much to hit. We made them chase. That is probably the best way to pitch to Donaldson. He can hit.”
