Prime Time in Fullerton

By Jason Owens - March 02, 2007

What a treat -- I'm taking a break from my normal hoops duties for my first venture of the season to the baseball diamond -- and I find myself at one of the biggest matchups of the early season. Tenth-ranked Cal State Fullerton and its 12 national championships, plays host to No. 6 Rice in a prime time Friday night matchup.

All-everything pitcher Wes Roemer, Collegiate Baseball's Co-national Player of the Year in 2006, takes the mound for Fullerton looking to bounce back from a rough start. He's already matched his loss total from all of last year with a 2-2 record. But as I've learned from resident baseball expert Eric Sorenson, he still has his good stuff, sporting a 36-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Part of the problem for Roemer is that he's not getting the run support that his fellow Titan pitchers are afforded. CSF is averaging 4.75 runs per game for Roemer's Friday starts, while the Saturday and Sunday pitchers have the luxury of 9.25 runs per game
