Rice-Fullerton: More Action from the Pen

By Jason Owens - March 03, 2007

Rice reliever Kyle Gunderson gave up another Fullerton run when a Jake Vazquez double sent Clark Hardman, who had walked and stolen second base, to home plate. Mike Ojala took Gunderson's place to finish out the sixth inning with Fullerton leading 8-3.

For Fullerton, Nolan Bruyninckx takes over for Wes Roemer at the top of the seventh. Roemer finishes the game with 10 strikeouts, two walks and three earned runs over 118 pitches, and barring a collapse by his teammates, a victory. While Roemer's 10 strikouts in six innings are certainly impressive, what might be even more noteworthy is that this game marks only the sixth time in 35 career starts that he's allowed more than one walk in a game.
