Rice-UT: Russell Goes Yard Again
By Glenn Tanner - March 27, 2007
After four innings in Austin, Texas leads Rice 1-0.
In the top of the fourth, Texas pitcher Austin Wood worked his fourth consecutive 1-2-3 inning; I have him at 39 pitches for the game.
Leading off the bottom of the inning, Texas slugger Kyle Russell cranked his NCAA-leading 16th homer of the season down the right field line. Here's the Texas record book for homers in a season:
20 Jeff Ontiveros, 2002
19 Brooks Kieschnick, 1993
18 Scott Bryant, 1989
17 Mark Cridland, 1998, and Danny Peoples, 1996
16 Kyle Russell, 2007, and it's only game 31!
