Big Hits, Big Arms

I'll be honest. After South Carolina's back-to-back homeruns in the third inning (which made it four bombs on the night for them), I didn't think those would be the last runs we'd see for the Gamecocks.
Each team only finished with six hits, in Carolina's 4-2 win. It made it quite the crisp game, lasting just 2:05.
I will get into more detail about the South Carolina pitching staff in my Thursday column, but Mike Cisco was excellent picking up his third win of the season. It just continues a long line of excellence that head coach Ray Tanner has seen, in on of his deepest pitching staffs in years.
It also should be mentioned that S.C. now has the most homeruns in the nation. Launching four in one night definitely helps that total. But Travis Jones now has eight in eight games, as he continues to be a huge spark for the Gamecocks.
The top four hitters in the lineup hit the homers, for USC's only runs of the night. Tanner said after the game that he would have liked to see some more offense, because as the old baseball saying goes,"solo homers are rally killers."
But the bottom line is, the Gamecocks on this night didn't need any more offense. The pitching staff was almost perfect.
