Don't Like Rain
By Doug Kroll - April 18, 2007
Last Wednesday, rain washed away what was supposed to be the third game of the season series between South Carolina and Clemson. Everyone has their fingers crossed that the April 25th meeting, won't be the 3rd meeting. A 40 percent chance of rain has this baseball editor nervous, especially after sitting at LGA since early this morning and enduring a 4 hour delay. But anyway, on to the baseball talk.
What qualifies a series as a rivalry? Well I'm not sure exactly, but all I do know is, this one definitely does. First, the Tigers and Gamecoks have met 277 times on the diamond, with Clemson holding the 162-133-2 lead.
Second, they plain just don't like each other; and either do the fans. I can't wait to see the atmosphere at Sarge Frye Field tonight, because from the first couple of games, it was amazing.
Only one starting pitcher has been determined as of this point, and it's the Gamecocks. Sophomore righty Mike Cisco will take the hill for S.C. Cisco is a South Carolina native and is 2-2 with a 5.44 ERA thus far.
We'll have more from Columbia from out at Sarge Field, as gametime is set for a little after 7pm.
