FSU: 'Noles, Tar Heels round two
By Michael McGuffee - April 21, 2007
It's a sunny Saturday in Tallahassee and everyone's talking baseball as Florida State will take on North Carolina for game two of the series. The Seminoles took the first contest 4-2 thanks to seven scoreless innings from senior right hander Bryan Henry.
Today the 'Noles will send another senior, Michael Hyde (8-2), to the mound. Hyde is third on the team with a 2.84 ERA, but has lost two of his last three decisions. North Carolina will go with Alex White (4-2), the preseason ACC Freshman of the Year as named by Baseball America.
Look for both teams to get more production from the top of their lineups, which were relatively quiet in game one. UNC first baseman Dustin Ackley and FSU second baseman Tony Thomas Jr. are tops in the nation in batting average but finished with just one hit apiece Friday.
The Seminoles return to the field donning their usual white uniforms with garnet hats and socks, while the Tar Heels will hope wearing Carolina blue will bring better luck in game two.
Must be some late risers as there aren't as many fans in Dick Howser Stadium as there were last night. However, not much going in Tallahassee and a good day to be outdoors, so I expect they'll be here soon enough.
Running a few minutes behind today, but FSU's Mike Martin and North Carolina's Mike Fox are talking it out at the plate and we'll be getting underway shortly.
More to come
