Houston: Flores v. Savery in matchup of athletes

By Amber Obermeyer - April 15, 2007

Right-hander Luis Flores will hit sixth for Houston, and left-hander Joe Savery will again bat cleanup for Rice, as both pitchers are playing both ways on a beautiful day (finally!) here in Houston.

After cold, overcast, and rainy weather to start the series, today is a gorgeous April day here in Houston. There are literally zero clouds in the sky, and the temperature is very comfortable in the mid-70s. If the entire park were wireless, I wouldn't be holed up here in the press box.

The Cougars are wearing their Tiger-esque (yes, that's a golf reference!) red jerseys with white pants and still-fully-exposed navy socks, while the Owls remain in their road grey jerseys and pants, disappointingly down to their ankles with a very few exceptions.

The Rice lineup is worse when Savery pitches, because Danny Lehmann (normally a catcher, but playing first today) doesn't hit as well as Aaron Luna (in theory at least--Luna has been struggling of late). I don't think the Cougars lose much behind the plate with Chris Wallace catching instead of Flores, as Flores doesn't control the running game too well himself.
