Houston: Gayhart adds to Rice's lead

By Amber Obermeyer - April 14, 2007

The normally light-hitting Jared Gayhart (.379 slugging percentage entering the game) guessed correctly on the first pitch from John Touchton, pulling an 86-mile-per-hour fastball over the wall in straightaway left field for a three-run home run and a 5-0 Owl lead.

Touchton had been living on borrowed time, though, allowing eight hits, two walks, and hitting one through four innings. Rice hasn't showed much discipline, hitting into a double play and swinging at a lot of first pitches, but I suppose with some more first-pitch results like Gayhart's, it won't matter.
