LEXINGTON: Defense lets Dombrowski down
By Chris Lee - April 15, 2007
Vanderbilt got leadoff man David Macias on when a easy ground ball to Brian Spear at third went through his legs, and then Pedro Alvarez tapped one that wasn't hit hard, but was placed perfectly between the first and second basemen, and VU had runners on first and second with none out.
Dominic de la Osa then bounced a ball over second and into center, and when center fielder Antone de Jesus saw Macias take the turn at third, he kicked the ball and then overran it in haste to get it home.
By the time right fielder Sawyer Carroll picked it up, Alvarez rounded third, and when the throw was off-line, Alvarez slid in with the second run.
Vandy's Ryan Flaherty dragged a bunt and thought he'd reached, but was called out by Nelson Graham at first. De la Osa took third, and Dombrowski struck Andrew Giobbi out with a change-up on his hands. Shea Robin flied to right to end the inning, but the Commodores have a 2-0 lead with the Wildcats coming to face righty Nick Christiani for the first time.
