LEXINGTON: French puts Vandy on top

By Chris Lee - April 14, 2007

Kentucky's Andrew Albers was poised to breeze through the second after retiring the first two hitters on harmless ground balls, and No. 7 hitter Matt Meingasner at the plate.

But Meingasner singled, and Alex Feinberg added a rare walk. Brad French, mired in a huge slump, lined a looper to center that Antone de Jesus made a head-first diving attempt for, and nearly came up with a spectacular catch.

But he didn't; the ball went just under his glove, scoring Meingasner easily, and Vandy's Tim Corbin sent Feinberg home from first. The throw from left fielder Jason Kipnis hit the cutoff man, and the throw home was good, but Feinberg just beat it and slid around the tag.

Hot-hitting David Macias struck out to end the inning, however. It's 2-1 Vandy as the leadoff man steps to the plate in the bottom of the second.
