LEXINGTON: Here comes the rain (again)

By Chris Lee - April 14, 2007

My announcement of the rain's departure was premature. Within five minutes, it was sprinkling again, and now it's elevated back to something in the neighborhood of a downpour.

UK's Albers got out of the top of the first without yielding a run, and Vandy's Mike Minor is getting no help from the defense, himself included. Minor gave up what was ruled as an infield hit when, on a grounder to second, Brad French went over to field it, leaving Minor to cover the bag.

Minor got there in time, but instead of tagging the base, he straddled it, so UK had the leadoff man on. Then on a ground ball to Feinberg at second which might have been a 4-6-3 double play, Feinberg booted it and two were on. UK's Sean Coughlin singled sharply to right, and when right fielder Dominic de la Osa looked towards first, he saw a dark shirt thinking it was first baseman Brad French.

Instead, it was an umpire, and de la Osa tried to bring the ball back, but it was too late. It trickled towards first, scoring Brown and giving UK a 1-0 lead.

'Cats have men on the corners and one out, still hitting in the bottom of the first. The rain has subsided in its intensity, but it's still coming down.
