NASHVILLE: Efficiency

By Chris Lee - April 07, 2007

As great a pitcher as Vandy all-American David Price is, he's not the most-polished pitcher on the staff. That honor belongs to true freshman Mike Minor, who just finished a 1-2-3 first inning on eight pitches.

While Price relies on a devastating fastball and hard slider (with a changeup that's also becoming increasingly effective), Minor gets his fastall to the plate around 91-92, and compliments it with an outstanding change-up that's indistinguishable from his fastball at the release point. Minor also has a great slider as well.

Anyway, Minor has just an unbelievable command of pitches, and unusual poise on the mound. One would NEVER guess that he was pitching against high school hitters a year ago (where he had a 0.08 ERA) as he looks like a big league veteran.

Alabama 0, Vandy with one out and a man on first in the bottom of the first.
