NASHVILLE: Matthes ties

Vandy's Casey Weathers hit leadoff batter Brandon Belcher with a 1-2 pitch, and Alabama's Jake Smith sacrificed him to second for the first out.

Weathers got all-SEC centerfielder Emeel Salem to fly the other way to left, then faced cleanup hitter Kent Matthes, who went the other way and singled to right to score Salem for the tying run.

'Bama hitting with two outs, Matthes on first in the ninth.
