NASHVILLE: Passed ball brings a run

By Chris Lee - April 06, 2007

Vanderbilt's David Macias led off the eighth with a walk, then on a perfectly-executed hit-and-run, the slumping Pedro Alvarez lined a sharp single to right for a first-and-third situation with none out.

With Dominic de la Osa at the plate, a Miers Quigley pitch got by catcher Ryan Rhoden, and Macias sprinted home before Rhoden's throw of the caroom off the brick wall beat him to the plate.

That gives Vandy a 1-0 lead, as Ryan Flaherty was intentionally-walked, and the Commodores have men at first and second with one away in the eighth.
