NASHVILLE: Price finishes it
By Chris Lee - April 06, 2007
All-American David Price just pitched a shutout ninth to improve to 6-0 on the season, as Vandy beats Alabama 3-0. Price's candidacy for the Roger Clemens Award just got stronger, as the junior lefty struck out 10 for his seventh double-digit strikeout effort in eight starts.
Price struck out Ryan Rhoden to lead off the ninth, then walked Matt Bentley. Jeff Texada tried to bunt, but popped it up, and Price sprinted to catch the ball just in foul territory before it hit the ground. It was one of the more athletic plays I've seen a pitcher make, not surprising considering that Price once had a basketball offer at Auburn.
Price got Brandon Belcher to bounce to second, and Alex Feinberg's flip to Ryan Flaherty at short ended it.
The No. 1-ranked Commodores improve to 28-4, and 6-4 in SEC play.
