NASHVILLE: Where'd this come from?

By Chris Lee - April 22, 2007

After walking the first hitter he faced in the third as he came to relieve Stephen Shao, Vandy's Nick Christiani has been terrific.

Christiani's intentional walk to Yan Gomes, which set up an inning-ending double play in the third, has been the only other baserunner he's yielded. He's thrown a perfect fifth and sixth, with four ground-ball outs and two pop-ups to shallow right as the Commodores still hold a 6-5 lead.

It's the first time in weeks that I can remember a reliever other than Casey Weathers pitching with any degree of effectiveness for Vandy.

Interestingly, Brian Harris has stayed in the game at first after pinch-hitting for Kurt Lipton last inning. The Commodores are really struggling to get offense from that spot right now, the 5-foot-8 Harris just got his first crack at first, and made a nice play to catch a wild throw and apply the tag for an out in the sixth.
