Oxford: Big crowd
By Chris Kieffer - April 27, 2007
Great spring night in Oxford, Mississippi and the crowd has continued to grow.
Several red, white and blue tents in the student section. And coolers, And dogs.
Outfield crowd stretches from line to line extending beyond both foul poles. The student crowd in right goes deep back on the hill too.
Ole Miss has already added four more runs with one out in the second to lead 8-1. Jordan Henry burned his way to a triple on a ball hit into the gap and Logan Power hit a three-run home run to left on a Chad Crosswhite changeup.
Ole Miss first baseman Evan Button made an interesting play in the top of the second. Ball hit off his leg and sat in front of the base while Button looked for it. He found it just in time for the out (as the crowd shouted its location to him...kind of like one of those game shows where the crowd guides a blindfolded contestant).
Couldn't fully hear from the press box, but it sounded like there were a few boos for Mississippi State center fielder Mark Goforth. Goforth is a transfer from Birmingham Southern. He nearly chose Ole Miss before going to Mississippi State.
