Oxford: Gamecock offense

By Chris Kieffer - April 22, 2007

South Carolina's offense has found some life here in the first inning Sunday.

The Gamecocks scored as many runs in the inning as they did in the first two games of the series.

After getting a total of eight hits over the last two games (and 14 over their last three), the Gamecocks have already struck for five runs on three hits in the first inning. The three hits were all big ones too...a twor-un double by Justin Smoak, a two-run home run by Phil Disher, and a solo home run by Jon Willard, all off Ole Miss freshman left-hander Nathan Baker, who entered with a 2-0 record in SEC play.
Steady wind blowing out to left, where both home runs were hit.
Gamecocks entered the series leading the nation in home runs per game but hadn't hit a long ball until the inning.
USC third base coach also drew some applause (including an ovation from OM fans) after snaring a foul ball.
Rebels have answered with a pair of hits in the bottom of the firts. It's 5-0 South Carolina with Ole Miss' Jordan Henry on second and Zack Cozart on first with one out.
