Oxford: To the closers
By Chris Kieffer - April 29, 2007
Score still tied at 1 in the eighth.
MSU went to closer Aaron Weatherford in the seventh. Weatherford touched 94 with his fastball and retired the Rebels in order strking out two.
MSU CF Mark Goforth just singled to lead off the eighth and OM replaced Nathan Baker with closer Cody Satterwhite.
The change was interesting. OM had two right-handers warming up (Satterwhite and Scott Bittle) so after OM coach Mike Bianco spoke with Baker and catcher Brett Basham on the mound and Baker held up his right arm for a change, and Basham held up seven fingers to indicate number seven (Satterwhite).
Home plate umpire Kevin Assman (no that is not a typo, but it is pronounced Oss-man) got hit by a pitch earlier in the inning leaving a bit welt on his arm. The crowd cheeered after the trainer checked out Assman and he was OK.
Ole Miss first baseman Evan Button made a great catch on an errant pick off attempt by Satterwhite to keep Goforth at first.
Goforth then advanced two bases on a pair of ground outs.
