Vanderbilt/Tennessee: Vandy leads 4-3
By Jesse Johnson - April 21, 2007
With the majority of a capacity crowd cheering them on, the Vanderbilt Commodores plated 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. In one inning that was quite entertaining, first baseman Brad French led off the inning with a single to right, making it the fourth time in five innings that a Commodore leadoff hitter has reached first. Following a bunt single by the speedy David Macias, second baseman Alex Feinberg reached first on a bunt of his own towards third base. Vols first baseman JP Arencibia was charging in on the play, but Feinberg pulled the bunt to third on a beautifully executed play. Commodore right fielder Dominic de la Osa followed with a sac fly to center for his third RBI of the game. Pedro Alvarez then followed with his first hit of the series with double to left field, scoring Macias.
However, Vols catcher Yan Gomes has just took a Mike Minor fastball over the leftfield wall for a 2-run homerun to pull Tennessee back within one. Minor struckout four of the first 10 Tennessee batters he faced to start the game, but has since given up four hits, three runs, 2 walks, and a hit batter.
Vanderbilt leads 4-3 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning.
