Big East: Rutgers On The Board
By Adam Caparell - May 24, 2007
Our first runs of the day came courtesy of Rutgers as Hoffman finally got into a jam he couldn't get out of.
David Williams started things with a two out double that was followed by Tom Edwards hot shot up the middle that Hoffman was able to get his glove on. The only problem was the ball was hit so hard it took the leather right off Hoffman's hand and 2B Ryan Arcadia wasn't able to get to the ball fast enough to throw out Edwards who motored down to first.
Williams and Edwards scored on what should have been the inning ending out when Arcadia dropped the pop fly off the bat of Jon Gossard in shallow center field that was erroneously ruled a hit at first but was later appropriately changed. The ball popped off the heel of Arcaida's glove as he was backpedaling. He probably should have left the center fielder take it.
Hoffman got a pop fly - that was caught this time by SS Derek Shunk - to end the inning. Rutgers gets two runs and stakes itself to a 2-0 lead. 2 6 0 for Rutgers to 0 2 0 for Nova at the end of two and a half.
