ACC: Copp locks up FSU and Miami

By Glenn Tanner - May 26, 2007

Clemson rode outstanding pitching from David Copp to a 5-1 upset over #1-seed Florida State in the third game of the day.

The loss is the first of the season for FSU's Bryan Henry, the ACC Pitcher of the Year. Henry is now 14-1.

Clemson's win eliminates both FSU and Miami.

Leading 4-0, Clemson added an insurance run in the 8th when Brad Chalk tripled home Alex Lee.

The Tigers had 10 hits in the game, two each by Marquez Smith, Taylor Harbin, Addison Johnson, and JD Burgess.

Kopp was the star, though, as he took a five-hit shutout into the ninth before FSU scored an unearned run on Jack Rye's RBI double. For the game, he allowed six hits, walked none, and struck out six, tossing the first complete game of the tournament.

The Tigers will now watch game four between Miami and Wake Forest with keen interest. A Miami win would send Clemson into tomorrow's title game against North Carolina.
