ACC: Eating Mor Chikin
By Glenn Tanner - May 23, 2007
Both Georgia Tech and North Carolina plated runs in the fourth inning. Starting the fifth, the Tar Heels lead 3-1.
Danny Payne just walked, which means he has now reached base safely in 75 straight games. Yowza.
Trailing 1-0, Tech tied it in the fourth. Singles by Wally Crancer and Patrick Long put runners on the corners with one out. Tony Plagman followed with a high bouncer up the middle. For a moment it looked like SS Josh Horton might be able to glove it, step on second, and throw to first for a double play, but it was going to take a heck of a play to glove it and step on second immediately. Instead, he muffed the ball for an error, and Crancer scored from third.
UNC got that run back and more in the bottom of the inning. Dustin Ackley singled to lead off, then Tim Federowicz followed with a walk, which GT disputed because home plate umpire Randy Harvey had incorrectly signaled a 2-2 count before the 3-2 pitch. After a sac bunt, both Chad Flack and Tim Fedroff delivered run-scoring singles to right.
Chick Fil-a is catering today's media lunch. So far, I have eaten approximately 382 chicken nuggets and am about to explode a la Mr. Creosote. It's almost enough to make me forgive Chick Fil-a for the incredibly annoying commercials that were ubiquitous at last year's conference tournaments.
I've also decided that if I were a beat writer, I'd weigh about morbidly obese with all the free food that's available at these events.
