ACC: Good morning and good night
By Glenn Tanner - May 25, 2007
Yesterday's ACC tournament action in Jacksonville wrapped up at 12:50 a.m.
We just finished today at 1:15 a.m.
I'm bringing my sleeping bag to the park tomorrow... er, I mean later today.
North Carolina embarrassed archrival NC State 14-5 to set up a Bracket B winner-take-all showdown Saturday with Virginia.
The Tar Heels pounded out 19 hits, scored in seven of their at-bats (including four times in the ninth), and were helped by three NC State infield errors (all of which occurred consecutively in the fifth).
Seven Tar Heel starters scored runs, eight had ribbies, and all nine had hits. It's tough to pick a star out of that bunch, but I'll take Tim Fedroff, who went 4-for-5, scored three runs, and drove in two.
Robert Woodard gets credited with the win. He finally tired in the eighth, got touched for a couple of runs, and hit the showers. His final line: 7.2 innings, 9 hits, 5 earned runs, 2 walks, 6 Ks, and 112 pitches
Marcus Jones and Ramon Corona had two hits each for the Wolfpack.
Day three's schedule:
4:00 Clemson-Wake Forest: A Clemson win eliminates both Wake and Miami
7:00 Florida State-Miami: Should be the biggest crowd of the tournament, but you can bet it won't actually start at 7:00
I'm heading home and setting my alarm clock for about 2:30 p.m.
